Empire of Fashion/Imperio de la moda is a research project led by Laura Beltran-Rubio as part of her doctoral investigation. The project aims to develop a material-based approach to the study of early modern fashion and consumption in Spanish America. Empire of Fashion therefore sheds light on the development of tastes and the adoption, dissemination, and adaptation of fashions throughout the region in the eighteenth century, by drawing on documentary, visual, and material evidence. In doing so, Empire of Fashion advances the understanding of fashion as an important phenomenon of global reach during the early modern period.
